About Dave Hay.

Dave Hay is a member of the RCMP and currently works in the traffic division in the Courtney/Campbell River area of Vancouver Island, B.C. His involvement in the GWRRA Rider Education Program has spanned many years in all the areas of Rider Education. This includes assisting at Rider Education courses from their inception, to instructing and serving as a Rider Educator at the chapter level of GWRRA and on to become the BC-District Rider Educator. From that point on Dave was committed to spreading the word about Rider Education, Safety, and saving lives through education. He went on to become GWRRA Educator for Region-J of GWRRA which includes BC, AB, Sask, the Yukon, and Alaska. Dave's accomplishments include, among other things, the formation of a group that has since become known as "Team Canada" that is made up of Chapter and District Educators. The purpose of this group is primarily to attend the international GWRRA Rally known as Wing Ding and to help man the Rider Education booth there to spread the "word" about Rider Safety through commitment, education, and participation in the Rider Education Program of GWRRA.
Dave was appointed Assistant National Director-Canada a position he has held since being appointed by the National Director of Rider Education for GWRRA. Dave presently works with the newly appointed National Director of Rider Education for Canada Gordon Murphy. Together they are the driving force behind the Canadian Rider Education Program that they developed to meet the specific and unique problems of Riding motorcycles safely in Canada.
In Dave’s own words ... "When I'm at work I'm one of the few people you would least want to see in your rear-view mirror... a motorcycle cop. As a member of the RCMP Hwy Patrol I ride a Harley for work and a Wing for pleasure & am a member of "BC-B Campbell River-Courtenay" GWRRA. For a look at my ugly mug, see "Mounties surmount international red tape" on pages 52 and 53 of the January 1998 edition of Wing World. My professional training includes road race and closed circuit advanced driver training, RCMP car and motorcycle courses, the BC Safety Council advanced rider course and have assisted in Canada Safety Council motorcycle courses. I am certified and Licensed by the Province of British Columbia as a Motorcycle Riding Instructor and am qualified to teach any approved course. I also teach the R.C.M.P. Police motorcycle course for Law Enforcement officers. I have been a motorcycle rider for over 40 years now. I have owned or used over 28 different makes and models...US, Czech, Japanese, Italian & British. I worked as a motorcycle mechanic, I have road, off-road and drag raced different bikes. My motorcycle tires have ridden the roads of Canada, the US, Britain, New Zealand & Australia. I even covered the 1972 Isle Of Mann T.T. Races for print & broadcast media. Along with the assistance of former BC Safety Council Chief Instructor Gil Gilbert, Ken Thornton and Region J Rider Educators Phil & Margaret Craven, and many other Region, District and Chapter Educators, I teach Rider survival, promote rider safety, teach ERC's and co-ordinate the newly sanctioned made in Canada Advanced Rider Course from British Columbia, Canada.". And that, I think, says it all!
