It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Ron and Carol Hodgson on becoming the new National Directors of Canadian Operations. I beleive that they worked hard for the position and are well deserving of it. I in the meantime will become one of those members that the Directors will be trying to please. Both myself and Yvonne wish them all the best in their new endeavors
Good Luck
Denis and Yvonne Evans
Former National Directors of Canadian Operations
Please send Ron and Carol a vote of confidence
At This time we would like to thank every one that supported us through all the years that we were Directors we enjoyed your help and your company immensely
Thank You
One of the great things about GWRRA is the folks who volunteer to make things happen for us. Here in Canada we are fortunate to have folks like Denis and Yvonne who helped advance thinhs up here in a truely Canadian way. Many of their efforts were behind the scene and we only saw the results and not the input. Thank you both.
I have known Ron and Carol as Region J Directors for some time now and know how much they have contributed in every area. I know they will be filling those empty National shoes VERY well. Phil and Margaret Craven have been ambassadors for the REP ever since they took the reigns. They have lead by example and effort and I know they will be just as successful as Region J Directors. It is specially nice to have Educators as Directors. We can expect an announcement soon from them concernning the new Region J Director of Rider Education. All four of you folks are a wonderful asset for GWRRA and Anne and I look forward to seeing you on the road in the next rising season. Congratulations, and thank you all for for what you do.
RIDING WITH ATTITUDE
I apologize for the time I have taken in getting a response to Don Norris and also to you here in Rider Edcuation Land. Don sent me a copy of "Riding with attitude" a while back and I read it from cover to cover. It is all about motorcycles and the way that motorcycling, and out own lives, have evolved. The old line about "that which does not kill us, makes us stronger" I think can apply to Don's book. It talks about riding motorcycles back in the "good old days". Many of us did thingsthat were considered quite normal back then. I also went riding on my bike with a couple of bucks in my jean jacket, a Woolco sleeping bag and a plastic sheet as a tent. My 1968 Truimph Bonniville started leaking oil at 1001 miles as the 1000 mile warranty ended and it was an accepted thing. His book brought back many memories. Sometimes it amazed me that any of us survived, let alone turned out to be the "respectable" people are today.
It also shows us that many of the great motorcycling truths of those days no longer can apply. Bikes are much better built. They actually corner and handle, tyres actually grip, light bulbs dont disintigrate from vibration and we have ABS and linked brakes. We now know about threshold braking, push steering, SIPDE, and actually take courses to supply the knowledge we want and need. No longer do we actually believe that it is better to lay a bike down (crash it) to avoid a crash? We know of proper swerving and cornering techniques to avoid the obstacle...and more importantly, we know now to look ahead and anticipate the problem before it happens.
I enjoyed "Attitude"....makes a great read and rekindles many memories. Like Dr Laura says in her signature tune... "we have a new attitude" these days. Don, thanks for the ride down memory lane and thanks for showing us just how far we have come.
I have included a link to a newspaper article on the book...and/or you could contact Don directly at < href="mailto:wingnut1@colosseum.com">wingnut1@colosseum.com
For anyone who missed reading the Sunday Sun article, the link is here. Share it with your friends.
